“No one said it would be easy, but it will be worth it”.
I have always considered myself to be overweight the majority of my life. I was an all-star soccer player and an active member of the Mt. Pearl swim team so activity wasn’t an issue; or so I thought. I was always the bigger one and was always comparing myself to others. I wanted to be the size 5, the girl that could shop in regular clothing stores like the rest of my friends did but unfortunately that was not the case. It took a while after that and im not quite sure what triggered it, but one day I finally had enough.
I will be honest. I have tried every “Miracle Pill” out on the market or that was advertised on TV. I’ve spent thousands of dollars doing LA Weight Loss when it came here which in turn went bankrupt and I lost all of my money. I fell for the U Weight Loss Clinic scam as well, where I signed up to lose 30 lbs by taking 16 pills a day and I was guaranteed to lose the weight…and I did, however as soon as that last pill pack was gone, I got bigger and bigger than I ever was before. I felt like a total failure.
I was that person who lost 30 lbs, gained it right back. Lost it again, to gain it back. It was a given that eventually I was going to fail again because that is what I did best. I have been a member of every gym in this city and considered what I now know as a cardio bunny. I lived on the treadmill and cross trainer for hours a day. I also tried these low carb diets to eating nothing at all, just to try and shed some weight. Weight Watchers was the key success that started me on my journey.
It wasn’t until after I had my second child where I had reached my heaviest weight at 245lbs. I made a promise to myself that it was going to be the last time I seen that number. I was done having children so it was time to put myself first and concentrate on becoming the person I’ve always wanted to be.
In July 2012, I entered the doors of Heavyweights where I did my first program; 21 Rapid Fat Loss. I was so scared to even be there. I finished that program and continued on my journey when Heavyweights reopened its doors in Donovan’s. I signed up for the Ripped in 42 Program and it wasn’t until that program and that atmosphere that I knew I was home. The staff and trainers there made me feel so welcomed. I worked my ass off in every class and even went on to get the Best Motivator award for my program! That was when I knew I had to continue. I should mention that I was in 2 car accidents and could barely do any exercises. I had severe back pain and didn’t think I was going to be able to continue working out at heavyweights. I know he is no Doctor but by god Rob King certainly knows his shit!! Wasn’t before long and I was in tip top shape and good as new!
I went on to do many programs after that. I did Built in 42, Bikini Body in 42, Smallest Winner twice, back to built twice as well. I have also had a couple of Personal Trainers along the way. I used to stand from the side and watched a few coaches as they trained their students and seen how proud they were of their hard work. I’ve wanted for so long to be one of those people and I wanted someone to be proud of me.
I did multiple circuits at Heavyweights, sometimes morning, noon and evening and finally found me a coach. Someone who I knew would take me to the level I needed to reach to get me to my goals. Someone I could put all my trust in and who would understand the everyday struggles that I go through. Not to criticize me or judge me when I went wrong, but guided me to stay on track because he was 100% confident that I had what it took to do it and to get there. 4 months ago I started training with my coach Larry Walsh. I have never been so focused in my entire life. I have been pushed to places I’ve never even thought possible. I was made accountable for everything that I did on a daily basis. He messaged me every morning to ensure I had my water, nutrition and whatever else I needed to start my day and made sure that I wasn’t going to give up. Today I can proudly say that I make my HeavyWeights Coach Larry Walsh proud, and furthermore and proud of myself for all the hard work that I have put in and have not given up on myself.
Today I am proud to say that I am 73 lbs lighter! I cant tell you how happy I am and how grateful I am that I walked through the doors of Heavyweights Training Center.
Everyone there is like family. No one works out alone and someone is always there to help you. There are no words for the amount of support you get, not only from the staff but from the members as well. I can’t thank everyone enough for the amount of support that I have gotten! I am not done on my journey and I still have a lot to learn. Weight loss does not come overnight. You have to get comfortable, being uncomfortable. As the quote says, “No one said it would be easy, but it will be worth it”.
