After being around the fitness and health industry for over 20 years I have seen many things come and go.
I have seen fitness fads and more “diet” programs than I can remember.
I have seen Atkins Diet, Keto Diet, South Beach Diet, Carb Cycling, Counting Calories, Not Counting Calories, Fasting, Paleo, Grapefruit Diet, Eat For Your Blood Type Diet, Macros and on and on.
I have some BIG news for you about “diets”. Every single diet will work…. For a short period of time.
Recently I have seen the popularity of concepts like “it doesn’t matter what you eat as long as it fits your macros”.
While I agree that knowing your numbers and within reason monitoring your calories can be a good tool to teach people about what they eat and how calories can add up is a good thing.
As well I think for fitness and bodybuilding competitors it has it’s benefit for sure.
However when someone is trying to lose fat the last thing they need is to be fitting oreo cookies into their macros or daily plan or weighing their apples.
NO ONE got fat eating apples and if you have weight loss goals oreos really don’t need to be on your plan.
Most people don’t need to justify foods or count every single calorie, they need discipline and better decision making.
They need to know that they don’t need that right now. They need to learn hunger control, they need to learn will power and NONE of these things come easy. They take work.
Discipline is not a bad word.
After 20 + years I know that I don’t need to weigh my food and log it and track it, I just know that often times I just need to make better decisions and make better choices.
Make the right decisions 90% of the time. Enjoy whatever you want 10% of the time.
Just make good decisions most of the time and once in a while enjoy food. After all food is meant to be enjoyed and should be. But if you have fat loss goals then you gotta sacrifice to get to your goals. Delayed gratification is a skill.
Stop counting calories. Don’t eat so much crap, exercise more.
If you went back 50 + years you wouldn’t see many obese people. Why? Because food and calories were not as available and people had physical jobs. No one had calorie counting apps and food scales then. They just didn’t eat as much and they didn’t sit down for 10+ hours a day.
Keep it simple
1. Train Hard. Your goal should always be to get stronger & build muscle (Improve Your Metabolism)
2. Make healthy eating decisions 90% of the time. We know what we should eat. It’s doing what we know is the hard part.
3. If you train hard all week and you want a treat meal or you go out with friends of family enjoy it. No need to deprive yourself or bring your scale and measure food. One meal out of the week makes very little difference. See the big picture.
Eat Healthy, Train Hard, Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff. Enjoy Food and Life.
