About 10 years ago, I hurt my back very badly while training (and doing stupid stuff) for a powerlifting show.
10 years ago I was going for a PB on sumo deadlifts at a weight of 585lbs., got it half way, and got stuck. I kept fighting, and fighting, and fighting. Then, all of a sudden, it felt like I got shot.
My legs went numb, I couldn’t stand, and I was in agony.
From that one lift onward, my back was never the same again. After that, it just got worse and worse and worse.
It didn’t take long until I started to gain weight, get depressed, and had to use pain medications daily. I was just in a horrible place. I couldn’t workout the way I wanted. I was limited to stupid machines, I could barely train my legs, and overall my training just sucked.
I went to see numerous chiropractors, massage therapists, back experts…you name it. Some helped a bit. Some were a waste of time and money. I got an MRI and that was the icing on the cake.
1 Herniated Disc, 3 Bulging Discs, degenerative disc disease and more. I left just wanting to quit on everything. I was defeated. The MRI said I was done as did 3 doctors and I felt DEFEATED.According to my chiropractor, (Dr. Janice Drove-she is awesome!) I had one of the worst backs she had ever seen.
Can you say devastated?
Then something happened.
I decided that I had to take some action. I had to find a solution to my problem. I was NOT going to give up; instead I was going to FIND A WAY.
I searched for back experts online who had gone through problems themselves. One of these people I found was Dean Somerset.
I watched Dean’s Youtube videos, I read his blog, I started to do everything he said in his videos.
Then something started to happen.
I started to feel BETTER.
I could move again, I could train again, slowly I started to get strong again IN-SPITE of all my injuries.
Then last year I flew out to Edmonton for a 2-day spinal health and core conference and got to actually meet and train with Dean.
It was amazing. I learned so much from that seminar. Dean’s Blog, his T-Nation.com articles and his videos that have tremendously helped with not only my own training, but also my clients’ training.
This week I had the best squat workouts of my life since my injury. Two years ago I could barely squat 135lbs. Two days ago I squat 315 for 12 reps without ANY pain or pain medication.
If you have injuries Dean is literally a magician.
I highly recommend you check out his blog by clicking HERE. As well, Dean has released Post Rehab Essentials 2.0 and it’s on sale until today.

I can honestly say this guy has changed my training and my life and I will continue to learn as much as I can from Dean to help my clients.
Thank you Dean, and keep up the great work my friend.
