Are YOU A Warrior?

I just spent the weekend in Shererville Indiana studying and training under one of the top coaches in the world, Martin Rooney.

Martin Rooney is an internationally recognized pioneer of strength and conditioning for the martial arts. He holds a Master of Health Science and Bachelor of Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from Furman University.

Oh he is also the coach for “The Gracie’s” and was the personal coach to the Prince of Abu Dhabi, hey no big deal 🙂

I decided a few weeks back that it was time to “Up My Game” as a trainer & coach.  It is always easy to stay the same and not invest in yourself, however that is not my philosophy and my goal is to ALWAYS improve and ALWAYS learn more and never stand still.

Enter Martin Rooney.

I have been following Martin’s writing and philosophy for a while now.  I may have been one of the first people to purchase his “Training For Warriors” DVD series and book.  I always believe in investing in myself.  My books and training DVD’s come before me buying clothing, going to see movies and so on.

As well I attended a Perform Better Seminar in Seattle a few months ago and Martin was a presenter. One of my best blog posts ever was written about training under him and how to “Be Extraordinary“.

Without question I signed up, booked our flights, and got everything ready to go (even though I have just opened a new business and I have been working around the clock).

Investing in my education & health comes first above anything materialistic.

Martin has been a huge influence on me so I decided to take the step and do his “Training For Warriors” Certification course.

It was BY FAR one of the best investments I could have made in myself for both me and my clients.

I thought I knew about training, I thought I understand the purpose, I thought I understood motivation.

Boy was I wrong.

The whole weekend just reminded me of this quote from Bruce Lee (and it was great to talk to Martin about Bruce Lee, that alone was worth the trip”.

“Before I studied the art, a punch to me was just like a punch, a kick just like a kick. After I learned the art, a punch was no longer a punch, a kick no longer a kick. Now that I’ve understood the art, a punch is just like a punch, a kick just like a kick.” – Bruce Lee

My level of understanding of why we do things now has changed which brings us to Rooney Rule #1.

Rooney Rule #1 – We don’t do something for nothing.

Ever wonder why you do what you in the gym?  Ever wonder why you bench the way you do, why you do things like like presses?  Have you just kinda done them because you saw someone do it, or because you read a program on some fitness magazine.  Have you ever REALLY looked at what you are doing in the gym?  Well Martin Rooney has, and his Training For Warriors System is the brain child of all his years of fitness research, training himself, training others, and always refining his system.

The Training For Warriors Certification went above and beyond what I expected, and I had high hopes going into this.  I learned far more than I expected, I got coached and taken out my comfort zone in more ways than one, and also I have NEVER EVER been so sore from 8 reps of  hip circle and a glute bridges.  You see there is a lot more to a rep than just moving.  This whole weekend we have lifted hardly no weights, and yet my heart rate and screaming muscles can be attributed to one thing, Martin’s AMAZING ability as a coach. 

Me blogging and writing and telling stories about it can do it no justice, all I can say is you have to attend one of his events, whether a Perform Better Seminar, Training For Warriors Certification or any of his clinics.  I can’t say enough just how awesome an experience this has been and I am DAMN PROUD To say that I am now
