Just Do Your Best

Hello from Texas!

I hope you are doing great and I just wanted to say hi and update you on things.

I flew into Killeen Texas last night around 7pm. It made for a long day since I started traveling at 5:45 am Newfoundland time. 4 flights and I finally made it.
Texas is HOT. Now I knew it was going to be hot but I guess Texas in June is hotter than I expected. I have already gotten more sun today than I have in Newfoundland in the last 6 months. It’s amazing how good the sun can make you feel, espicially after not seeing any for months :P.

I am in Texas to compete at the IPF Power Lifting World Championships and I am excited.

This week is going to be amazing and I am excited to give my best on the platform on Monday.

When I say “Give My Best” there is a BIG difference between “Giving My Best” and “Being My Best”.

Right now I am not my best. I am hurt, I have been hurt for the last few months, but for right now at this very moment all I can do is give my best. It’s not MY BEST, but it’s the best I can do right now.

This is where most people mess up.

They never think they are good enough.

I see it all the time.

How often have you thought that you need to get better at something before you START something.

All the time I hear things like “I want to lose a few pounds then I am going to join a gym”.

Most people are afraid of doing something, of getting started, of showing up and trying because they are not at their best.

If you really think about it the ONLY thing you can EVER do in your life is give YOUR BEST RIGHT NOW.

Set backs happen, injuries happen, LIFE HAPPENS.

In the end all you can do is try and give your best and then go from there.

To be honest I wasn’t even going to come here this year. I made the team (for which I am grateful), but I am not nearly as strong as I was last year. Last year was my best day ever on the platform. That set the bar VERY high for me. Then not long after Worlds last year I hurt my hip and I haven’t been the same since.

I was going to stay home this year because I knew I wasn’t going “Be My Best”.
Today I went for a drive, seeing some sights, buying some healthy groceries for my room, and I went to Starbucks to do some work and write in my Journal. While I was there I asked Danielle on Facebook how the weather was back home. “Rain, cold and yucky” she said.

Then it hit me.

Here I was in hot sunny Texas, competing at the Worlds and going to have an amazing experience. If I come first or last it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I took a chance and had the experience. Had I stayed home it just would have been another normal weekend in Newfoundland.

I write this to you because I want YOU to simply do ONE THING this week.

Do YOUR BEST with what you got RIGHT NOW.

If you are training give it your best.

If you are on a nutrition plan give it your best.

If you are thinking about joining a program do it and get started.
Stop waiting for things to be perfect, stop waiting for YOUR best to happen.

In the end all that matters is you make the most of TODAY and give your best.

The first tattoo I ever got said “Memento Mori” which is Latin for “Know Your Own Mortality”.

So this week from one friend to another do me a favor and give your best at whatever it is you are doing.
